Greenville, S.C. - Pat McCarty jumped in the decisive break in the closing circuits in of the U.S. Pro Road Race in Greenville and finished 6th in the race behind George Hincapie (Columbia-HTC), who took the third national championship of his career.
McCarty was part of a lead group of seven riders that formed mid-way through the second of three 4.2-mile laps in Greenville, that included Hincapie as well as Jeff Louder (BMC).
“Pat tried several attacks in the closing kilometers,” said team directeur sportif Mike Tamayo. “He knew that both Hincapie and Louder were pretty strong finishers and he was trying to keep the race from coming down to a sprint.”
Each time he attacked, the group succeeded in shutting him down. Louder countered one of his last attacks and stayed away solo until the last few hundred meters when he was overtaken by Hincapie, who was racing in his home town.
White carries good form out of Utah
OUCH Presented by Maxxis was active throughout the race, with Roman Kilun getting in one of the early breaks that stayed away for quite some time before the half-way point of the 177km race.

Brad White, carrying great form coming out of the Tour of Utah, was also in the mix the final time up Paris Mountain and coming into the closing circuits. He was in the second group on the road coming into Greenville off of Paris Mountain. His group merged with the front group of nine riders and at one point, on the first of the three short laps in Greenville, he was off the front with Hincapie and Phil Zajicek (Fly V).
On the second lap, the front of the field re-shuffled and McCarty found himself up in the front group battling for the stars and stripes jersey, in a bid to give OUCH Presented by Maxxis its second national champion this year, with John Murphy already having won the criterium championship two weeks ago.
