Oakland, CA - The OUCH Pro Cycling Team Presented by Maxxis is sending a stacked roster to the TD Bank Philadelphia International Cycling Classic this Sunday.
“Without question, we have one of the strongest, most balanced rosters in the race,” said team directeur sportif Mike Tamayo. “Philly can be an unpredictable race, but with the guys we have coming, I think we’re ready for just about anything.”
The roster boasts a number of riders who could be in the mix at the end, depending on weather conditions and race tactics. Sprinters and classics specialists Karl Menzies, John Murphy and Andrew Pinfold can all figure in the finish if a large group stays together for a bunch kick at the end.
Menzies was instrumental in helping teammate Greg Henderson to the sprint win in 2006, while Murphy is no stranger to sprints at the end of long, hard one-day races, having twice finished in the top 20 of the U23 version of Paris-Roubaix. Pinfold has shown he’s more than capable of handling plenty of climbing en route to a sprint win, as he showed with a stage win and two podiums at the Vuelta Mexico earlier this year.
If dynamics turn the race into more of a climber’s competition, both Rory Sutherland and Floyd Landis could find themselves in the mix at the end. And with his strong finishing kick and the form he showed in winning the Joe Martin Stage Race last month, Sutherland is a strong choice for the podium.
As usual, Tim Johnson will be leading the team on the road, and likely will be there to ride tempo and lead any chases the team will need to execute. Sutherland and Landis will also have climbing support from Pat McCarty, while Brad White will likely take his place in one of the early breaks.
