The Road Diaries catches up with Mike Tamayo

Michael Zellman of SRAM/The Road Diaries chats with directeur sportif Mike Tamayo in a rare on-camera appearance by the man behind the mic.

Zellman reports:

Team OUCH Director Mike Tamayo has been on the scene for many years directing several successful squads and this year takes over the reigns of Team OUCH. The team has changed substantially from its previous iteration as Health Net, mainly with the influx of lots of great young talent and the addition of veteran Floyd Landis. Tamayo refers to Floyd as the “X-Factor,” as they didn’t quite know what to expect from Floyd heading into the 2009 Tour of California.

Good luck to Team OUCH at the Tour of Utah and I’m especially looking forward to seeing Floyd Landis on the top step of a pro cycling podium soon!

It’s starting to look like that will only be in a local cat 1&2 race with basically all amateurs in the race. When do you finally ask the question of what is up whith Floyd. To my knowledge, he has dissapeared from the sport and hasn’t spoken a word of his demise to the public.

    Mike,
Don’t know if you remember, but I was on your team for a bit when you were a rookie! Congrats on moving into such a big job! I live in Salt Lake and I don’t know if you see these posts, but I’ll look for you at the race. Also, you can find me on facebook under Jen Dial Santoro.

Hopefully I will run across you at Tour of Utah!

    Mr. Tomayo

After Floyd’s ToC performance, don’t you think it would have been appropriate to change the team name to, “Maxximum OUCH!”?
